Should I Buy Or Rent Scuba Diving
Gear?
-
If you have developed a love of diving, you
may be thinking about purchasing your own scuba diving gear.
Here are a couple of questions to ask yourself before you go
out and buy any gear at all.
One of the first things you should ask yourself is whether this
newfound love of scuba diving is going to last, or will it
peter out in a few months. Just as with a relationship, it is a
good idea to not make too much of a commitment until you know
that what you have is built to last. Because the purchase of
the gear can be quite an investment, you want to make sure that
it will not end up buried under something in the basement or
taking up space in the closet. Instead of spending a lot of
money on scuba diving equipment, you may want to give yourself
a season or two and just see how well your interest is
sustained. After a reasonable amount of time has passed and you
find your interest in scuba diving to still be high, you can
think about buying your own equipment.
Finances are also a consideration when it comes to purchasing
your own gear. Scuba gear does not come cheap. There is also
the chance that you may have to order some customized pieces as
well. Before you make a commitment to purchase diving
equipment, take a good look at your finances and determine if
you can afford to make that type of investment right now. There
is nothing wrong with renting equipment if you find that it is
a better fit for the budget right now. You may want to save
back some money for the equipment rather than taking it out of
your monthly income or pick up an extra job for awhile, if you
really want to get your own gear.
Purchasing your own equipment is a big investment. Once you
have evaluated your finances and also determined that you will
get your money's worth out of owning your own equipment, the
time will be right. Remember that scuba diving gear is great,
as long as it is being used, but not so great when it is
collecting dust.
